The aim of the tutorial is to:

 

show you how to understand and use table properties.

 

Understanding table properties

You can use the Table Properties box to modify the alignment of the table with the body text and the text in the table.

To open up the Table Properties box and use the available tools:

  1. Click on Tables on the menu bar
  2. Click on Table Properties. The box below should appear on the screen:
  3. Change the Size of the table by clicking in the white window next to Preferred width: (a tick should appear inside it) and enter a value if the table should be an exact width.
  4. Set the Alignment of the table by highlighting the illustration that represents the alignment of the table in relation to the text of the document.
  5. Set the Text wrapping by highlighting Around if the text should wrap around the table or choose None if the table should appear on a separate line from the text.
  6. Set Borders and Shading by selecting from a number of border styles, colours, and widths. Click the Shading tab to change the background colour and pattern.
  7. For Options click the Options button on the Table Properties window and the Table Options box will appear on the screen:

    You can change the spacing between the document text and the table borders under Default cell margins. Click on the box next to Allow spacing between cells (a tick should appear in it) and enter a value to add space between the table cells.
