11x Setting text into Columns

 

 

Exercises

  1. Open up a new file in Word and type in the following text:
  2. Life is managed; it is not cured. Learn to take charge of your life and hold on. This is a long ride and you are the driver every single day. Simply put, never in your life are you without problems and challenges. You know that if everything is calm and peaceful in one area, such as your home, there's likely to be challenge and turmoil in the workplace, or vice versa. But we often worry about the difficulties and don't spend enough time thinking about what things are going well. So accept that life has to be managed and you will be less likely to concentrate on all the bad stuff, label every problem that arises as a crisis, or think that you are a failure. Manage your life, and all the bad and good it throws at you.

  3. Use the Columns tool on the standard toolbar to set the text in to 2 columns of equal width and spacing. It should look similar to this:
  4. Use the same procedure to set the text into 3 columns of equal width and spacing. It should look similar to this:
  5. Using the Format menu to open up the Columns box, select the preset option to set the text in two columns, with the left column thinner than the right. It should look similar to this:
  6. Use the Columns box to set the text in to three paragraphs with different widths and different spacings, with a line between the columns. The image below shows the width of columns 1, 2 and 3 as 2cm, 3cm and 2cm, respectively, and the spacing between columns 1 and 2 as 1.5 cm, and between columns 2 and 3 as 2.5 cm:
