The aim of the tutorial is to:

show you how to customize list styles, and to add and modify list styles.

Bulleted list

To customize a bulleted list:

  1. Highlight the list to be bulleted.
  2. Open up the Bullets and Numbering box.
  3. Ensure that the Bulleted tab is upper most.
  4. Select a style of bulleting.
  5. Click on Customize.
  6. The Customize Bulleted List box will appear on the screen:
  7. Chose a bulleted character from the six shown.
    Further bulleted characters can be found by clicking on Font, Character and Picture.
    1. Clicking on Font will open the Font box.
      Clicking on Character will open the Symbol box.
      Clicking on Picture will open the Picture Bullet box.
    2. Select your choices from one of these boxes.
    3. Click OK.
      The box will disappear from the screen and only the Customize Bulleted List box will be visible.
    4. If you have finished customizing the bulleted character then click OK and the box will close.
  8. Set the bullet position by using the up/down black triangles opposite Indent at: or typing in how far the bullets should be indented.
  9. Set the positions of the text that follow the bullets using the up/down black triangles or typing in the positions.
    The tab sets how far after the bullet the text appears, and the indent sets how far any text that falls on to subsequent lines appears after the bullet.
  10. Check the preview.
  11. If you are happy with the preview click OK.

Numbered list

To customize a numbered list:

  1. Highlight the list to be numbered.
  2. Open up the Bullets and Numbering box.
  3. Ensure that the Numbered tab is upper most.
  4. Select a style of numerbing.
  5. Click on Customize.
  6. The Customize Numbered List box will appear on the screen:
  7. Change the number format if necessary and click on Font to open the Font box.
  8. Select the style of numbering from the number style: menu and which number the numbering should start at.
  9. Set the positions and alignment of the numbers. Check the preview window.
  10. Set the tab space and indentation of the list text. Check the preview window.
  11. If you are happy with the preview click OK.

Outline Numbered list

To customize an outline numbered list:

  1. Highlight the list to be bulleted.
  2. Open up the Bullets and Numbering box.
  3. Ensure that the Outline Numbered tab is upper most.
  4. Click on Customize.
    The Customize Outline Numbered List box will appear on the screen:
  5. In the number format section of the box chose a level of numbering to be formatted.
  6. Type in a number format if different to the default setting.
  7. Select the style of numbering from the number style: menu and which number the numbering should start at.
  8. Click on Font to open up the Font box and select the font for the numbering.
  9. In the Number Position of the box set the position and alignment of the number. Check the preview window.
  10. In the Text Position of the box set the tab space and indentation of the text. Check the preview window.
  11. If you are happy with the preview click OK.

List Style

To customize a list style:

  1. Highlight the list to be bulleted.
  2. Open up the Bullets and Numbering box.
  3. Ensure that the List Styles tab is upper most so the following appears on the screen:
  4. Chose a list style from the list on the left and check the preview.
  5. Click OK.

To add or modify a list style:

  1. Highlight the list to be bulleted.
  2. Open up the Bullets and Numbering box.
  3. Ensure that the List Styles tab is upper most.
  4. Click on Add to open up the New Style box or click on Modify to open up the Modify Style box. Both boxes are the same and the illustration shows the New Style box:
  5. Enter a name and if applicable a style type.
  6. Format the list by setting the number to start at and the level to apply the formatting to.
  7. Complete the formatting using the options available.
  8. Check the preview window.
  9. Click on the Format button for further formatting options.
  10. When you are happy with the preview click OK.
