12 Setting worksheet margins

The aim of the tutorial is to:

explain how to use the Page Setup box to set the margins of a worksheet prior to printing from Excel.

 

Setting worksheet margins

Page margins can be adjusted when rows or columns of data do not fit on a page and you don't want to shrink the data to fit the page. You can adjust the margins in two ways:

  1. Using the Margins tab in the Page Setup box:
  2. Adjusting the margins in Print Preview.

To set margins using the Page Setup box:

  1. Open up the Page Setup box.
  2. Click on the Margins tab to ensure that it is uppermost.
  3. Use the up and down pointing triangles to increase and decrease the top, left, right and bottom page margins.
  4. Use the up and down pointing triangles to increase and decrease the header and footer margins.
  5. Check the preview.
  6. Click OK.
    The Page Setup box will disappear and the margins will be set.

To set margins to centre printed data:

  1. Open up the Page Setup box.
  2. Click on the Margins tab to ensure that it is uppermost.
  3. In the lower part of the box centre the printed data on the page horizontally and/or vertically by clicking on the square next to Horizontally and ensure that a tick appears in it, and/or click on the square next to Vertically and ensure that a tick appears in it.
  4. Check the preview.
  5. Click OK.
  6. The Page Setup box will disappear and the margins will be set.

To set margins using Print Preview:

  1. On the menu bar click on File.
  2. In the pop-down menu click on Print Preview.
  3. At the top of the Print Preview box click on the Margins button.
  4. Click on a dotted margin line and drag it to reset the margin size.
  5. Click on the Close button at to the top of the Preview.
    You will be returned to the worksheet and the margins will be set.
